I want to do this to my car but the shop said that it will affect the back pressure and they will not touch it. Now Im new to this diesel thing. Will this affect the back pressure Being turbo and all or is the shop full of it? also is there anything else I can do to help with performance?

since your engine has a wastegate on the turbo, it will make it really loud when the wastegate opens. otherwise, no negative effects

I'm strongly giving this mod consideration for a number of reasons.
From what information I've gathered from the froum archives, the turbo itself will absorb much of the exhaust noise. The main benifit of having this mod is allowing the turbo to spool up quickly as a result of lower back pressure.

BTW...I've posted a question in the pwr. enhancement forum...perhaps you know the size of the stock exhaust pipe on the 99.5 Golf?
Thanks
