I have found that much of the noise associated with the SMF setup at idle with the clutch released is due to the 5th gear cover tin ringing out like a steel drum. You can put your hand over it to dampen it and 90% is gone...or at least MUCH less annoying.

What I have tried is layering Dynamat extreme 1/16" sound-proofer stuff on the flat of the tin.
3 layers seems to work pretty well.:)

Interesting. I have a couple of products that should work very well if this is the source of the noise. Thank for sharing.

I have thought about doing this. I noticed the same thing about putting my hand on the cover while it was rattling and most of it went away. Now I know it actually does work.

pics?

Do happen to have pictures? I have isolated my cabin floor with thick wool to dampen the sound. You should check your bearings as well. I also lighten my flywheel, I took 2kg off.

I only get it with the VR6 kit but didn't with the tdi kit. Must be absorbing sound so it doesn't echo as much with that.
