Windshield scratch removal?

We had our first frost last night and I used my trusty windshield scraper that I've been using for 10 years without a problem on three or four other vehicles.

I use it on my VW and the (apparently easily scratched) windshield is scratched to heck, tons of fine scratches all over the place, making my morning commute into the sunrise oh so pleasant.

Any recommendations on good products to use to get rid of this???

I had some fine scratches on my windshield, not a TDI, and used glass polish. Worked pretty well. It depends how deep the scratches are. You can pick it up at any hardware store.

Any specific brand? I know that some are more abrasive than others and may cause optical distortion (the scratches are all over the place).

I'm going to find an auto parts store and see what happens.

Amazingly enough, I've helped replace several windshields, but we've never had to deal with scratches (just breaks on our 2nd gen Camaros).
