Just wondering if there are any people in the Northern Indiana area that are on here? I have seen a few TDI driving around lately and wondering if anyone is in here?

purdue in the fall, winter and spring. Chicago in the summer... so I drive through the region occasionally. Often enough to know that NW indiana is called the region

Actually the South Bend/Mishawaka/Niles area is generally called Michiana - have never heard it referred to as "the region" at least by the natives here.

As you can see by my location I'm in the Michiana area too - on northwest side near US 31 bypass/SB airport. I almost never see any TDI's around here but know Gurley-Leep sells 'em - at least a few must be in the local area still! There's one more TDI'er down in Grovertown (west of Plymouth off US 30) so that's another area guy on these forums. If you ever travel north on US 31 (Cleveland Road exit) to Berrien Springs and up M-139 that's where you might sight me as that is my commuting route.

"The Region" is loosely defined as:

Anywhere the grocery stores stock Old Style, and it regulary outsells Bud Light.

Mostly the NW corner of the state. South Bend usually is too far East to be included.

moondawg (lives in Madison, about as far away from "The Region" as you can get and still be in the state)

Just wanted to add my name to the listing of northern Indiana people. Live in Rolling Prairie, tiny little town between South Bend and LaPorte. Drive a 2003 VW Golf TDI and am a rank amateur with all things mechanical--but am learning many good things from this website!

Cool seems like there a few of us in the 'area'. I will keep my eye out for you. I have a package 1 shadow blue 06 Jetta. Should not have to mention that it is a TDI. I have Purdue plates on it, with the tdiclub frame.

If anyone is interested, I found a spot in South Bend / Mishawaka that sells Soy Diesel in B2. Let me know if you want to know where it is and I will try to give directions.

So any chance we can meet up someplace at a restaurant to check each other's rides out and get to know each other in person? Be nice if we can get the ball rolling on a local GTG in NW Indiana in the future. Right now I attend Michigan GTG's as they are the closest and the Indy guys have been talking about a GTG since early summer but so far it hasn't happened.

I would be up for that. Just out of curiosity, do any of you do your own work or do you dealer it?

I'm a beginner, but I've done a few simple things: oil and filter change (with pela), cat 2 fuel filter install, rear brakes (pads and rotor), snow screen cleaning, air and cabin filter change, panzer skid plate install (with a huge assist from my mechanically-talented brother-in-law). I find the various "how to's" very helpful and the excellent videos produced by the CinciTDI folks are indispensable for someone fairly new to TDI upkeep. As far as the more challenging work--timing belt--I hope to find a "guru" willing to take on the job. I'm told that Greg (of Lubrication Specialists) in Greenfield, Indiana is the closest.

It'd be great to have a NW Indiana meeting!

Normal maintenance I do myself while major mods are done with help from a few good friends of mine. You'll understand if/when you get a look at my TDI.

So should we consider meeting at one of the joints along Grape Road or Main Street then? Guess a weeknight would work best (Wednesdays are out for me) - what do you guys think? If you have any suggestions on this please post same.

For the record I'm not fussy about what kind of food it is long as it's good. In case some of you are on a budget CiCi's on Grape would work well as it's a pizza buffet (about $6-7 with drink IIRC) - I know the Columbus TDI'ers have a monthly evening GTG at a CiCi's local to them which has worked good for them.

Railroader, it is near where Lynn Street intersects with Jefferson Blvd in Mishawaka. It is on E Jefferson Road Blvd. If you go to this link it should give you a good idea of where it is at:

Any place would work for me as well.

I would have never guessed by me asking if anyone was located in the area that it would turn out to a group meeting of sorts.

Very cool.

How about 6pm on Tuesday, October 3rd around 6pm for a time/date? As to where to meet Ryan's on Grape is good too - think a buffet setting will satisfy everybody tastes'. Please post if you think a Tuesday at 6pm will work for you. I'm thinking first Tuesday of the month for a monthly restaurant GTG if this idea takes off but need input from all you local guys - I had to start someplace and chose Tuesday so it doesn't interfere with weekend plans we may have. Nothing is set yet for day of week, time or eating establishment - if you have opinions on these feel free to post same. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of you think on this!

I am not going to be able to make this after all. Since the weather is nicer, I am going to try and get a bike ride in at Rum Village.

I picked 10-3 at 6pm at random - pick a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday date that will work along with a time in 5-7pm-ish range. So let's give setting up a date/time at Ryan's or other suitable establishment another try...:)

Tuesdays work better for me, around 6 would be the best for work. Location really is of no concern for me.

I'm on the north side of indy. If anyone ever wants to gtg around here, let me know! I'm also interested in sharing the cost of a vag-com system and maybe a timing belt tool set. If anyone wants in, email me or something!

OK, how about Tues., Nov. 7th at 6pm somewhere on Grape or Main in Mishawaka? Like you I'm open to wherever to go for food - perhaps we could try a few different places if this becomes a monthly thing until a preference for a specific place becomes known?

Hi Brad. I used to sell feed around Jamestown. That was back in the early '80's.

I am hoping to find others to visit with that love the TDI. I am interested in starting a group here in Indiana.

Any ideas?

So far Indiana has been a wasteland for TDI GTG's - much talk now and then about having a GTG someplace but it never gets close to happening. There was some talk early this summer about an Indy or east-central Illinois GTG but that never got close to becoming reality unfortunely.

I haven't had any luck at all in even trying to get a couple of local TDI'ers to meet for dinner at a restaurant in my area as discussed in ealier posts in this very thread. Seems there is NO interest for the dinner meet n' greet up here and yes, I have PM'd the local people who have posted here aboiut same but have never gotten a response to date. :(

My remedy is to attend Michigan GTG's (I live 3 miles south of the IN/MI border) and Columbus, OH GTG's for an in-person TDI fix. I also run the Michigan TDI'ers Yahoo group but it has been rather quiet of late - ditto for the Columbus TDI Drivers' Yahoo group. That's to be expected with winter and the holidays approaching - it usually gets more chatty with the onset of spring.

Maybe try starting an Indiana TDI Yahoo group? Meet some local TDI'ers for dinner near you? Host a GTG? That might get the ball rolling for real on Indiana TDI gatherings!

If a GTG is held in the central part of the state (like Indy or Bloomington) I would try to make it for sure! If furthur south depends how far it is for me since I''m up in the northern part.

Feel free to PM me off line if you want to talk about the possibilities here as I'd like to see some Indiana TDI activity. Most likely is is too late now for 2006 but perhaps 2007 will see an Indiana GTG?

Robert
