Purchased a used B5.5 wagon late Nov 2008 with 93,000 miles, here is a summary of repairs and maintenance over the last 12-months and 39,000 miles later.
Maintenance and repairs:
CV boot, LH (done day before it was picked up)
Balance shaft module
Timing belt, tensioner, roller, water pump, serpentine belts*
Air filter
Fuel Filter
CV Boot, RH
CV joint & boot, LH (look at line 1 and take a guess)
Oil and filter change, qty 4
A/C 384 relay
Alternator pulley
Wiper blades, 1 set
Glow plugs, qty 4
ECU re-program (because of glow plugs)
Tires, 1 set
Air Lift add-on air adjustable load assist
*The timing belt only had 15,000 miles on it, but I was there and already had all the new parts so it all was replaced.
Waiting for me in the garage…
Transmission filter and fluid change
Oil and filter change
My opinion: considering this was a used car with quite a few miles already accumulated, and since the purchase has been used like a light-duty cargo van for many of the miles, this car has required very reasonable maintenance and repairs. ...outside of the BSM.
Very happy with this car. ...[picture me] knocking on wood
Future wish list:
Rear sway bar
Shocks and struts
So, just how do you put 39,000 miles on the car in 12-months? Just take a couple of short road trips...
Road Trips to...
Portland OR - Seattle, WA
Tampa, FL
Branson, MO
Kerrville, TX
Wichita, KS
Bettendorf, IA
Ellensburg, WA – Roseburg, OR – Create, NE - Madison, WI
Portland, OR
Kerrville, TX
Dayton, OH
Conclusion after 12-months: This thing has been a great car.
