I had it for a week long rental. I put on 764 miles and hand calculated 37.6 on 87 octane. About 60 percent highway and I floored it.... a lot. It was actually fun to drive I couldn't believe it was a 1.4 L. It handled great also.

On the last day of the rental the radio / display refused to turn on. Strange for a car with 3200 miles on it.

Solid car for 20k....if I was in the market for a car I would definitely consider the Jetta.

i'm pondering 1 of these after the GTI. i'm interested to see that you got 37mpg - that's really good, especially considering the price of fuel

I've heard others get good fuel consumption with this engine. I wish they'd put it in the Golf too, and maybe with Bluemotion technology (automatic stop/start, LRR tires, aerodynamics etc.) and market it as a gas alternative to the TDI. Might help save their bacon post-scandal. ISTM that 40 mpg (US) wouldn't be too big a stretch with this car with the Bluemotion trickery.
