Well....

Two days ago I made the decision to trade my Jeep Wrangler in for a Passat TDI.

I loved the Wrangler, but it just wasn’t right for me. I wasn’t ready for the 12 miles per gallon on a daily driver. I was too scared of dragging the body down a rock while off roading, so I was really limiting myself on what I would do or where I would go when offroading. And truth be told, I REALLY missed the quiet and comfort I had in the Passat.

So I took a pretty good knock on the chin and traded it towards a CPO 2014 Passat TDI SE with sunroof. I got it for a pretty fair deal, I think, of $12,500.

So you guys haven’t gotten rid of me yet.

Wow same boat here. I'm going from a Wrangler to a 15 Passat TDI. Man that thing rides like a log wagon. Previously had a 03 NB and had at 276k miles. Finally let it go due to electrical gremlins. Wish i had kept it but at the time it was leaving me stranded with a parasitic draw.

I really enjoyed my Wrangler. I had a 17 Sport JKU (4 door) and had it lifted on a 2.5" Mopar lift and 35" tires.

I had a lot of fun with it in the year I had it.

But Now I have my Passat for daily driver duties. And I bought an XJ Cherokee that I am building for offroad fun. I've got the itch bad to go back out in the rocks, and the Passat just wont cut it. LOL.

Passat is such a great "grand touring" platform, I feel VW really knocked it out of the park for offering increased size at a decent price.

I am really pleased with it.

For some reason a lot of people say it is dated or is a complete flop because it was "americanized".

Well, The only reason it is "dated" is because that body style is now approx 6 1/2 years old.

Well, we rented an Infinity SUV while we were out in Vancouver for the JUNO awards weekend, and drove out to Langley to visit a friend... I couldn't believe, when I got back, that it took $32 to get it back to the 3/4 mark on the fuel guage upon return. I have no idea what kind of MPG that thing gets, but I sure was happy to return home to my 2015 Passat TDI - 6M... That trip (about an hour each way) would have been $10 of diesel, even at Vancouver prices...

And, going forward a couple of years, one can only imagine what the cost of fuel will be, but one thing for certain, today's prices will seem like the good old days. I cringe to think of all those big SUVs drinking gas at 14mpg and trying to live with fuel costs double and tripple today's costs.

How many miles on your 14? I just started looking again after trading my 12' in a couple years ago, I miss it.
