Still no fix for stereo Bluetooth problem on RCD-510?

First, thanks to everyone that's provided info on this.

So did everyone basically have to take in the actual TSB to their dealers?
I have a 2012 Jetta TDI with the RCD-510, software part number 1k0035180AE, with the mono Bluetooth issue, and two dealers have said they can't find any updates for my car. One said he couldn't even find the TSB after I gave him the number. A third one never bothered to call me back.

I was on hold with VW Cust Care for 20 minutes before they told me it might be my phone but they could find no tsb for the bluetooth issue.

Bunch of MF'ers. I simply don't have the time to take this down to the dealer and convince him or her that my car needs the update and then wait for them to do the actual update. I'd be alright waiting as long as I knew the dealer was familiar with the update/tsb.

Unless it actually doesn't apply to my car. Maybe I'm wrong. I've done enough research to think that I'm right.

Any ideas?

the guy on there had to insist and the canadian dealer had to call VWOA HQ in Virginia to get the update-no joke-AND had to flash all the rcd-510s on the lot! (insert VWOA trollface here)

Thanks Matt.
It just kills me that this stuff isn't communicated better to the dealers, or the dealers aren't competent enough to figure it out.

Maybe I'll just stop trying to work with the dealers and rewrite the code myself. Probably be quicker.

LOL @ VW making them flash everything on the lot. That is awesome.

Print out the TSB (listed in this thread) and shove it in their faces.

That's unfortunately not enough to get them to do it quickly. They just can't be bothered to prepare for this. As I described before,

"
For my update, it took the technician at the dealer a while (4 1/2 hours) to get to the point where he could start the update. This was despite the fact that I had stopped by before and talked about the update, and sent them email with the update info, and brought a printout of an email with all the points I wanted taken care of with me. But I had a loaner, so it didn't matter. Just had to keep it over night."
So, sort out the loaner issue beforehand.

If they aren't busy, the update alone will take almost 2 hours. So don't plan on waiting around unless you have absolutely nothing better to do.

I took in the TSB and gave them my VIN. They checked and said it didn't apply to my particular vehicle but to bring it in and they'll see if they can do it anyway. I'm taking it in Wednesday. Wish me luck.

Still don't understand why they can't just look up my vehicle and/or the TSB, and say "It's a '12 Jetta with this radio and software version and he's having this issue, so let's apply the update"

Doesn't seem that difficult.

I went rounds with mine several times. They wouldn't agree to install it on mine until I left it at the dealer for a full day. They wouldn't agree to the TSB fortunately I had a good tech that called me and asked me the exact steps to replicate the problem and I did. Along with that I went over and showed the tech what happens and he then called VW to get the TSB and update information.

Had an e mail from my local VW service advisor inviting me to bring in the Passat for a new reflash of the Premium 8.
Dunno whether I will do it. Fairly happy with the last reflash that kept the Bluetooth from ruling the radio......

EDIT: after 1.5 hours sitting in the dealership, was informed that the reflash was only for the 2014 cars. M:mad:

This TSB is now up to 2031136/4 according to our local dealership.

Should be done in an hour and see if it resolves the issue for our 2012 JSW.

Finally got the dealership to perform the software update today. At first they had the computer showing that there was no update available, but after calling VWoA, they were sent the update and got it installed. Took 3 hours once they finally got the file and were able to get started. As others have stated the sound quality from bluetooth (Pandora on a Galaxy S5) is now amazing. It is a true night and day difference. TSB number is still on 2031136/4 for this update.

There are actually two updates if you have a 1k0035180AE radio. There's one update for the AF radios and it can be done with VCDS and an SD card if you have the file (I do have it).

how do i get them to do it without acts of violence?

So how do i get my dealer to do the update?

Dropped off my '12 GTI on a wednesday and demonstrated the issue using a youtube clip with left and right IDs on the respective channels. Also played Ina Gadda Davida - Iron Butterfly to show how the lead guitar never manifests if you listen on BT vs hardwire. So on thursday they call to tell me its due to the poor quality of the files played. I disagree and send them the TSB number posted earlier ending in /2. They offer to have their electrical specialist look at it. Friday comes and goes and he says its the same thing, but they say they happen to have a VW rep coming monday and he'll verify. On Monday i go to pick up my car because its been 6 days now and they still stick to the quality of file excuse. Eventho Im streaming from the internet. When I ask about the TSB they say it doesnt apply to my car (1K0035180AE) And when i tell them about the TSB in person, the service manager says, "Wow you really spent time to research this" to which I respond, "Not really, its actually pretty common, and 5 minutes on google will yield tons of ppl with the same issue!"

HELP!:confused::confused::confused:

Here is a post about the RCD-510 in my 2012 Golf:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.php?p=4348612&postcount=10

The bottom of the post explains how I demonstrated the problem using an iPod Touch but the method should work with other devices also. I only have a basic cell phone that does not play music so I needed to use the iPod. An iPhone would work the same way.

I connected the iPod with Bluetooth and using "BT-Audio” as the “Media” source to the radio. I played some music and went into the iPod's “Settings” --> “General” --> “Accessibility” menu.

In the “Accessibility” menu you can change the iPod from Stereo to Mono, but leave it in Stereo and move the balance control from Left to Right (this is a slider below the “Mono Audio” button that moves from “L” to “R”. When you do this you will not hear any sound on any of the speakers when the slider is moved to the Left channel on the iPod because only the right channel sound is being transmitted and played on both the left and right vehicle's speakers with the older radio software.

To show the problem was because of the Bluetooth connection, I did the same demonstration using the MDI cable for use as the media-in source to the RCD-510 instead of Bluetooth and showed that both channels were now being transmitted over the MDI cable.

This clearly demonstrated the problem occurred when using Bluetooth but not with the MDI cable.

EDIT: The issue below occurred after the software update, but was easily rectified.

After the Radio software update, initially I thought I had lost the capability to receive HD radio sub channels. But the issue was the software update left the radio in a configuration where the "HD Radio" function was deactivated by default. I just had to go into the radio's setup menu (press radio “Setup” button then select “Radio” box on screen) and check a box to "Activate HD Radio". So be sure to check this after you have your radio software upgraded.

Any chance I could get that 1K0 035 180 AF - 0008 update from you BarryT82? I've got an SD card, VCDS and an RCD-510 running 0007 and I'm hoping to get it to play FLAC files. Thanks in advance!
