So to answer everyone's first question. Under the hood linkage checks out. Cables are good. Calbration for the cables also checked good. This is the shifter itself has become almost impossible to pull up out of reverse. I dont see anything out of place when i pull the boot. All other gears are just fine.

Does it make a difference if the engine is turned off?

I have a Skoda with a 6 speed that sometimes is hard to get out of first, I've checked everything and it's the clutch pedal itself that binds a bit. Just enough to not release the clutch all the way, so when you depress it it doesn't have full stroke on the clutch master cylinder and that causes the hard to get out of gear situation. I don't understand why the gear is easy to engage but hard the other way but when I put a dab of grease on the pedal it worked perfectly for a year and has now started to act up again.

Check if you can lift the clutch pedal further when it is released.
