Angry WTB: LED City Lights - Online Vendor Shipping is RIDICULOUS !

I am looking for a pair of ZIZA LED city lights for my B5.5 Passat Wagon. Online vendors seem to charge ridiculous shipping prices to Canada!

EXAMPLE:
I was looking into ECS Tuning for a pair of LED City lights

http://www.ecstuning.com/ES1844086/

$49.95 for the product. Free shipping in the States.

Cost of shipping to Canada however, is ludicrous.

$40.62 Shipping via USPS International or $56.04 via UPS.

How is this possible? Do they ship them in an over-sized wooden crate?

Anyone in the US want to order these, free shipping to your door, throw them in a padded mailer and send them across the border for the ACTUAL USPS shipping cost?

Peace!
Adam.

I'd be more than happy to help. I'm in seattle, so it will kind of be going back and forth, but if you don't mind I don't either. This is just the sort of international shenanigans I like. I'll probably get put on a watch list for this, but to be honest I'm probably on one already.
Email me if you'd like to take me up on the offer.

you could also easily just buy the LED bulbs + with a little bit of a wire and maybe a couple sockets (not sure exactly how these fit in the passat), make them much cheaper yourself

Iff'n he lived in Vancouver, that'd be a sweet deal. I notice he's in Ontario, still pretty spendy including time and fuel.

Send them to me and I'll mail them to you as a "gift".....

I've helped people with stuff like this before to the Czech Republic and other foreign countries.

I thought you were full of it so I called the PO. $38.00 (usd)! for shipping from here to there (assuming a 5 lb package)!
Take the other guy up on the gift offer .
I'll still do it if you want me to, but you're right; for some reason the usa PO hates canada.

Stick them in a padded envelope and throw some stamps on it......

No need for a 5lb box for about 6 oz of stuff. I'll bet it'll be less than $10.00 maybe even $5.00

I figured you were talking about driving it up to the border for him. Now I don't have any clue what you're talking about.

Op lives in Ontario, yes? Driving it "to the border" would be ludicrous from Seattle. Unless I was in dire need of an epic (and boring) road trip.
If USA shipping is free-- I was offering to have it shipped to me, and then I'd put it in the mail and ship it to him. Sounds like my 5 lb estimate was grossly high, but it would still make more sense for the fella out in the Midwest to do this than for me too.
Just to be clear; I'm not offering to dive it there .

Trouble is that shipping in Canada is expensive compared to shipping within the US. Shipping across the border is even worse.

I often ship stuff to Ogdensburg, NY and drive across and pick stuff up. I'll probably be travelling through Whitby some time in the next 3 or 4 months. Post up on the Ontario forum and you might be able to find someone making the trip sooner. I know there's a few of us that ship to Odgensburg.

Ok, cleared that up. Diving it up to him is indeed impractical.

ECS is also known to be the most expensive in terms of shipping to canada. I have ordered once or twice from them, but had it delivered in the USA, and i've then picked it up.

I took his bulbs out of the box and put them in a small padded envelope and was shocked when I went to the post office. They wanted $23.00 to mail the envelope!

I put them in yet another envelope yesterday and mailed them via first class (no insurance - not available for first class) and it was still over $8.00

I personally wouldn't mail them without insurance but that's what the OP wanted.
