Drivers side Drive Axle Price?

I put brakes on the car last night.
When I got to the drivers side front, I found the CV boot ripped:mad:

I'm not in the mood to do this twice, so I'll replace the whole axle.

If possible, does anyone have access to the pricing?
Please let me know.

70,000 miles so far.

The front brakes were just down to the sensor.. The rears still had some meat left over.
I replaced all with Hawk pads(HPS). They bite much better.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

You are one of the first that have posted that the fronts have worn out before the rears.

I would try searching some of the popular part places that are listed:

www.worldimpex.com
www.tdiparts.com
www.boraparts.com

If none of them have them listed, you could always email and see if they can get them as well.

There is always a first!
Rural driving, coasting/using the engine braking seems to help.

I got VERY nervous a few weeks ago when I had to travel to Philly and got in some crazy top and go driving. 65, then 0:eek::eek:. I guess no one can plan ahead in a Big Town! LOL!

I'll call the dealer tomorrow with the VIN(CYA). None of the vendors below have listing for the TDI. An internet search came up with the same results... no TDI listed...

Thanks for the info!

There has long been a sentiment around here that the OEM driveshafts are of better quality than either the aftermarket replacements or the rebuilt units.

Although it's much easier to simply slap in another driveshaft, many here would recommend replacing just the defective CV-joint (or, in your case, just the boot...).

Give Metal Man a call and see if he can come up with the part(s) you need... www.metalmanparts.com (he's also not that far away if you wouldn't mind driving over for him to do the repair...)

All the best,

Yuri.

Quick check at 1st VW (Auburn VW) lists the DSG driver's side at...

$596.18 (list is $729.36).

Just the outer joint is over $300!

I might try the boot first ($20)...

Try Raxles.com. I've used them in the past; I think they have a lifetime warranty. Slick packaging, including grease, gloves, & rag. They even send you a map and directions to the UPS store for the core return! JOHN

zanakas,
I called the VWdealer today 380 something list and a $326 sell(garage prices)
This was for a rebuilt unit. Core was another $200!

The boot was $26 or $27 range.
And the outer CV joint was $220 range.

Ugh!

Short term fix... RTV:rolleyes:, then order the boot tommorrow...

ymz/Yuri,
Thanks for idea... I drove thru Sunbury today.....Too funny!

Thanks and take care
Keith
