Like i knew what would happen, We (my family) are missing our 2015 passat we turned in. At the time it seemed to be the right thing to do. Debating on buying another one. My wife really wants a newer 2013+ ford fusion ecoboost but I am trying to weigh my options. Found a 2013 passat dsg car 68,000 miles. 1 owner. at a local VW dealer. looks like the "fix" was done very recently. My wife was a service advisor at a ford and VW dealer both a little over a year. she ad blue system is what scares her. Anyone have any input on this? Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Is there an addiction hotline for recovering TDI-a-holics???????????

It's tough having to admit your wife is smarter than you are. Less adventurous, for sure, but smarter.

(...so far, I'm keeping my hands off another TDI. The tremors have even slowed a bit, too...)

If at all possible stick to the 2015's may cost a little more/little more rare, but the improvements of the gen 3 is your best chance at lasting a longer time.

but that's just my opinion. Any Gen 2 car that has been "fixed" has an emissions warranty extended something like 48K or something, if that makes you feel better about the cost of emissions systems

my buddy who is a VW tech and did the update on this car said the emission warranty was extended 100k from the mileage it was performed.

I just bought a NOS '15 Passat. Not as much fun as my JSW with 6MT, but still good to be back. I travel for work, so I'm really enjoying the 40 MPG, and the car is comfortable.

Just a couple of .02 cents to the discussion. We were going to keep our 13 SEL, but couldn't pass up the lease discount on the new embargoed 15's. So we paid off the lease after one month with the new SEL and have now been driving the 15 for a bit over 3 months. The 15 is better than the 13 in the backup camera speed (just a few seconds ), and of course, the EA288 engine is a whole new animal, which I really enjoy. The stereo still sucks, but I've just become numb to it. I really do love every minute in this car!
If interested here's a training video on the EA288:

Greater of the two.
10yr or 120K

Or 4yr and 48K

Our 2012 was sitting at 80K, so we were only going to get warranty extension of 128K.

Kinda hard to compare that to the 12 years or 167K of the '15 SEL that had 60 miles on it.

Oh, darnit, I forgot to mention my biggest happiness with the 15 over the 13 and that would be HUGE reduction in turbo lag.

not much lag, its ecu programing- for emissions. A tuned ckra is extremely responsive

what are the differences in say a 2013 vs my 2015 that was turned back in? i see the engine codes are different. my 2015 was smooth. the dsg was far superior to my old bone 2006.

That and gearing of the '15 DSG is about 3-400RPM less at cruising speed.

75 MPH at 2K RPM is amazing.

Stick with the '15
