Note: The above is to the best of my knowledge- but at the end of the day simply interweb opinion, worth EXACTLY what you paid for it, and if used done so at your own risk.

1,) Download the users manual if you haven't done so already.
2.) It does take a bit of time to "Connect"
3.) Any bent or missing pins in the OBD II port or the Scangauge plug?
4.) Maybe that's why it got sold ??

There are no "protocols" to change as far as I know, so what you've done there is beyond my understanding.

Ok, next step might be to see if *anything* can connect to the OBD2 port in your 04... do you have access to a scanner?

I had this problem with a new SGII today.

Connected fine out of the box, ran through setup, then disconnected it so I could route the cable behind the dash. Reconnected it, stuck at the connecting screen. Tried a few times, same thing.

I then disconnected it from the OBDII port, waited 10minutes, tried again and it connected immediately. My theory is that plugging in the RJ45 while the OBDII has power can hang the SGII.

Probably not the OP's problem but might help someone.

Simon
