I am writing to make sure I have exhausted my diagnostics before pulling out my IP.
I was driving my 2003 ALH Golf (5 speed, 293K miles) to work and she just lost all power and died. Slight puff of blue smoke, but not noises or excessive smoke and no weird noises. Towed home and put on VAG COM.... no DTCs to report. Pulled fuel filter and attempted to run some diesel purge through the pump and car will not turn over. I can see the pump pulling the Diesel Purge close to pump inlet, but never turns over. The car has not burned oil and there is still same amount in sump since last change.
I assumed car lost fueling when it happened given symptoms. perhaps due to gummed up filter. Now that it won't pull Diesel Purge from 18", I am thinking my pump is shot.
Any other diagnostics that I should perform before removing the IP and sending to Portland for rebuild?
