• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

It looks like this guy/guy has 100% rating, but is it me or does this listing still smell of fish:
2005 Passat on Ebay

Dude says he will take 7000 "buy-it-now" but has no option to do so in the auction. Also won't answer emails. But will cancel your bid if you don't contact him first, which he won't acknowledge.

???

looks OK to me but don't know where the BIN for $7K came from. Listing is over $9K now. The seller looks legit as he is Verified. The web site is real ebay.

Ps

Dude had a 15K bid that he cancelled because the bidder didn't contact him first as per his instructions. So what's wrong with this car?

This car is extremely rare and i waited 3 months for my dealer to locate it for me when they first became available in the U.S. as was ideal for my bi-weekly commute from NC to NY requiring only one tank of diesel for the entire 550 mile trip. This car has full dealer maintainer history and has only been given the fully synthetic oils at every oil change.
The first sentence makes no sense. If he waited 3 months for a dealer to find one when they first became available, then why didn't he get a 2004?!?!? Something is dreadfully wrong with his mileage if he can only get 550 out of a tank for interstate travel. Even without venting, he should have a quarter tank or more left...

He claims to have bought it for his biweekly commute. The mileage on the car is 36,311. If he was making a NC to NY run every 2 weeks, thats' 1100 miles round trip, 28,600 miles a year (26 trips). 36,311 miles is 33 trips or at his rate, ~1.25 years of NC to NY trips. The car is ~3.75 years old, so what has he been doing for the other 2.5 years? And that is not even factoring in local use.

As for the dealer maintainer [sic] history, we all know that that is no guarantee that the right 505.01 oil was used...

It just does not add up to me...

I think he was stating that he can do the entire trip w/o refueling. One tank can be subjective, maybe he filled up at 1/4 of a tank. Maybe he filled up after his 550 mile trip.

As far as the amount of miles driven, maybe he only had to do the commute of one year then his commute was cut way down because he found a new job.

I understand that E-Bay is full of scammers, it is up to the buyer to do their research first.

Update

This listing (290247776715) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number.
If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it canceled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay.

Hmmm.

Could have sold it off eBay (with a BIN listing, you have that option). When I listed my CR-V on eBay last year, I ended up selling it privately and removed (canceled) the listing. I did pay eBay for the listing fee, however.

Yes, it's a scam, and my hunch is it's using compromised eBay and AOL account. The eBay user is from Ohio, the AOL email user is from West Virginia, and the scammer is using an internet account from DigiKabel in Budapest, Hungary. He would send you an "Ebay Motors" invoice to be paid via MoneyGram. He later switched to a Gmail account (wonder if AOL got to it).

I've notified eBay and few other ISP's. I used a disposable email address to communicate with him. Here's the latest exchange :

It sound familiary. I made few business with a company from Budapest, Hungary.
And I boght from them few servers for my boss.
Ok then please get back to me after you sent the down payment to eBay.
Thanks
Dr. Mike XXXXXX

XXXXXX is a real person in Huntington, WV (not sure if he's a doctor though) so I crossed his name out. Scammers think they would be more credible if they stick a title on their name.

Ha

I thought initially it was a hacked Ebay account as well. He finally answered my email with the same horrible English compositional skills as he showed you and set against the supposed "Dr." title it was a hilarious contrast.

Oh, well. Thought I might buy a TDI for song off a sucker. Figured it was too good to be true.

Here's the letter I received:

The car is located in Huntington WV, and shipping is available.
Final price is $7,000
I ended the listing because one person wanted to buy my car but he don`t have the full amount for it. He wanted to pay monthly payments and I don`t agree.
Please let me know where are you from and I will make a shipping quote to your destination.
My car is in great shape, I didn`t had any problem with the engine or with the transmission.
As I sad is in great condition. First of all I would like to tell you how to proceed with this deal.
We will make this deal under eBay Buyer Protection Program, You have to make a down payment of $2,000 to one of eBay agents and they will keep your payment

until you receive the car. Keep in mind that this is a refundable deposit. If you don`t like the car or if is not in the same shape as i described it, you
can send it back on my expense and you will take your deposit back from eBay.(But I guarantee that this will not happen).
So You will make the deposit to eBay and I send you the car. After you receive it, you will send the balance.
In order to start this transaction I will need your full details, as full name, full address.
I will start the transaction and eBay will send you a invoice with your purchase.
They will explain you how to proceed with the down payment.

Sorry for this big email but I want to clarify all as I received many questions for my car.
I wait your reply with your details and other questions if you have, and let`s start this deal.
Thanks

Sounds EXACTLY like a Passat Wagon TDI for sale on eBay a couple years ago and the guy claimed was RIGHT HERE in Minneapolis. Whenever I suggested I'd like to look at the car, he kept insisting the deal would be done under "eBay buyer protection rules" so there was no need to worry.

The more I asked about seeing the car, the less he answered the (e)mail and eventually, the listing disappeared just the same as this one.

I suppose there are people around who prove the PT Barnum principle, else these scammers wouldn't keep listing....
