Hey everyone. I'm looking into performing a valve body rebuild/fluid and filter change on my 2003 jetta wagon (automatic trans). I'm not sure which transmission model I have, though, and am therefore uncertain which valve body kit to get. The sticker that's supposed to be by my spare is MIA.

My VIN is WVWSP61J83W560381. Can someone help me figure out which trans i have?

Also - any resources for the transmission fluid? I'm not sjre which fluid to get since I don't know which trans I have. I intend to flush with spec fluid.

Thanks,
Colin

You should have a 09A transmission.

JSW started in 2009. You have just a regular Jetta Wagon.
Typically, just the solenoids are replaced along with the fluid. That takes care of the common problems.

fluid is G052990A2

Are you having shifting problems with the car?

Here is a 3 page thread about problems and techniques. See if you have anything in common with these folks;

Pardon. Jetta wagon.

Thank you. How did you determine that it's the 09a (and not the 01m)? Is the VIN coded for this info?

I will read that post.

I might not say *problems*, but rather indications that preventive maintenance would serve me better than waiting for problems. 2/3 shift can be sloppy when shift point is above 2800rpm; p/r engagement can be rough when on an in/decline; 2/3 and 3/4 shifts can be a tad delayed/sloppy sometimes (still trying to pinpoint a particular rpm range for this behavior).

I detailed my observations of the transmission's behavior/dynamics thus far, here: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=4854264#post4854264 . Perhaps that will be of use to you.

Thanks for the help.

My bad.
Sorry, Colin you are correct and my brain farted:eek:

01M transmission is what you have.

yes, KansasCityTDI.com is who you should contact for valve body work.

DOH!

I don't think that WIKI info is correct for the years that it says....at least in the US of A.
Golf and Jetta TDIs had the 09A in 2004 and early 2005 for Jetta...any of those two with the BEW engine. The New Beetles w/ BEW engines had the DSG transmissions.

Anyway, I know one when I see it.

Ok. Yeah I have a ALH not a BEW. :D

There's an incredibly detailed wiki on all VW Diesel engines, but no such luck on the transmissions. I'll do a fluid flush/filter change soon. If I still notice 2/3 or 3/4 slippage aget that, I'll get in touch with coolairvw.

I am doing a valve body fix as we text. Unfortunately there is little help from trans. Gurus here. I used the transformation fix kit, will install today. Mine was failing to shift properly when warm

Old thread but how did it work out? I used the same kit in my black sedan, new ribbon cable and used another valve body for parts to make the original work. So far, my trans works flawlessly and I like the fact lockup hits earlier than stock.
