Helllo,
I'm toying with the idea of doing the 5-6 speed manual conversion when I get my clutch replaced this summer. I need the specific transmission code for my vehicle, but I don't want to crawl under the car to locate it, as it's really cold and very dark in my garage. Please advise.

Sincerely,

There is a pdf, transmission swap how-to at the top of this 101 section that might answer your question.

Your '02 02J 5 speed will have the code EGR. The 02M six speeds can be DRW (oldest), ERF (most common), and FMH (newer). Be aware that the 02J uses a different clutch than the 02M.

What is better add a gear or entire transmission swap? Just curious.

if you want to spend lots of money to upgrade your car, then do a 6 speed swap.

Otherwise, go with the taller gear. I'd recommend a .681 unless you do ONLY interstate ALL the time

If the car is on a lift, is it possible to see the code? Just curious. Thanks!
