engine code P0401

As the title says my 2001 ALH has the engine code P0401 --> EGR flow insufficient detected. i tried removing the egr to clean it out but it didnt work as planned... can i clean the egr valve buy spraying brake cleaner into it while reving the engine? i read on this forum that the P0401 can also be caused by the MAF?

the car is very sluggish i thought the turbo had gone before i scanned it. i need some advice thanks

Nooooo, never spray anything into the manifold on a diesel unless you want to touf your engine.
Do an intake manifold cleaning. When reinstalling, junk the eger and replace with a race pipe and get a malone tune to rid the cel.
