Hello,

I need to replace the serpentine about once a year to 6 months, isn't that excessive? I drive about 2000km a year.

What happens if the serpentine belt snaps?

I have replaced: alternator bearing, belt tensioner and water pump.

The only thing I can think off is the that I haven't replaced is the crankshaft pulley, I can see some small dents in the tracks.

Do I need to remove the timing belt to replace the crankshaft pulley?

The AC belt is off, because the pump is broken.

The engine is similar to AHU, but it has 110hp instead of 90hp.

If the belt snaps, there's a possibility of bits of it entering the timing belt path with catastrophic results.

You say that you have replaced the alternator bearing, but have you checked the one-way alternator pulley? Does the belt and tensioner jump around a lot at idle? Are you using good quality belts?

The ribbed belt pulley/vibration damper separates from the crankshaft timing belt sprocket without having to remove the timing belt.

Ok, then I will try to avoid a snap.

Yes that was what I meant by "alternator bearing", yes it's working. It was a SKF bearing if I remember correctly. I used a special tool to remove it. It locks and spins freely in one direction.

I have looked at the belt but I haven't noticed that it jumps a lot but I'm going to take it in the garage and have a better look. Going to see if I can get a camera in there.

The current belt is made by Contitech.

Ok that's great, I will replace the CS pulley as a last resort.

You'd probably have to completely remove the lock carrier to use an impact gun. I don't think there's enough room to fit one in there in the service position.

Any irregularities in any pulley will eventually take its toll on a belt.
I think you've identified a major contributor.

From what I could read I only need to remove the 4 allen bolts. I have loosen the 4 bolts but the wheel doesn't seem to come loose.

Is the center bolt holding the wheel? Is it a one time use bolt?

It just needed some motivation with a hammer. The wheel is off now.

Got new bolts but what is the correct torque spec? I find different numbers when searching.

Do I need some Loctite on the bolts?

Yes it's the idler for the AC belt. Haven't used it for years the compressor is broken.

It's replaced now, thanks for the help! Now it's just everything else left :).
