So we just bought (about a month ago) a 2015 GSW that has had phase 1 of the fix completed but not phase 2 (obviously). It was not purchased at a VW dealership and does not appear to have been part of the buy back (was fixed in June and then sold at auction in september). I applied for the restitution money since I thought because phase 2 hasn't been completed we would still be eligible. Got a notice today that the vehicle is ineligible. Has anyone seen anything that would show that we would be eligible? Just seems wrong that vw would get out of paying phase 2 $$ on this car just because a previous owner sold it... Thank you!

Did the title change ownership to Anne Arbor Michigan? if so VW had ownership of the car when the fix applied and then auctioned it to the highest bidder. It was a buy back. This has been covered over in the diesel gate folder, many people like you were let down when VW applied a hint of intelligence.

No more money is left on the table. Hopefully you didn't make the purchase with this extra money in mind.

Enjoy your ride and motor on for thousands of miles!

no, it never changed ownership to ann arbor.. It was registered as a fleet vehicle, phase 1 done in june, sold at auto auction in Illinois in September... so highly unlikely to be a buyback vehicle...

We did not purchase expecting to get anything extra, but it would have been really nice. Part of the problem is that on their site where you put the VIN in, it says its eligible, but then the email said that it was the vehicle that wasn't eligible... just wondering the reasoning really... Don't want to miss out if there were some way to get it

We are definitely enjoying it either way!

FWIW, my VIN shows as eligible, but it was a buyback.

So for those of us not getting the money for Stage 2 fix why would we ever get it done? Warranty? Maybe a guy that wont get the money just turn the car into an "off road" vehicle and forget all the emissons issues all together.

Warranty is the big one.

New emissions components would be another.

And you know, compliance with emissions regulations.

Stage 2 "fix" items are primarily preventative replacement of emissions components to ensure the vehicle is compliant for the entire warranty period. You're getting expensive parts free. If you accumulate enough miles to qualify, why wouldn't you do it?

Nothing is certain in life. But probably as certain as new tires or brakes or new any other part. This is supposed to be changing out like part for like part. Not some unknown concoction going on your car.
