2000 Beetle TDI: I've got the CEL and code 00293, all gear options lit up on the dash. Car seems to drive okay other than a bit of a clunk going into reverse, which I'm not sure if a new thing - my wife's car. The test described in this old thread (https://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=237051) point to the selector cable needing adjusting, but can find nowhere what the procedure is. First, if it seems to be sitting squarely in the proper gear, is it really the cable adjustment? I get the part about the elongated bolt hole and all, but how do I know it's adjusted correctly? Does it have to be done with the car running? That would be a major PITA because you have to remove the airbox to get to it, so seems like I'd be repeatedly removing and reinstalling the whole mess in order to run it, adjust, run it, adjust...... I've searched high and low on the Internet for more info, but no luck.
