Do not forget to clean the connection of the fusible links & connections on the front of the engine space E-box. Corrosion there can cause similar issues.

Also, as others have said. Clean your grounds. All of them, every single one.

Verify a good battery charge.

Battery is new. It was drained from testing on the second vcds scan. I have checked all grounds thoroughly. I have also removed, inspected, and replaced every fuse and relay. I replaced the can-bus module and the power distribution module. As far as the wire bundles, I removed the factory “loom” and inspected everything from the firewall to the ecu on both connectors, plus the longer bundle to the “y” at the left headlamp assembly. No broken or exposed wire.

ETA: I will test the MAF for voltage and the fuel pump relay.

ETA addendum: there is no stable voltage to MAF. I have to go to work, but for now I’ll ask for more information.

Does anyone have a diagram for the ecu pin connectors? I want to make sure I am getting proper power and grounding to the ecu.

I had a very similar issue as you described. Ended up being the ECM relay in the fuse box in the engine compartment that was bad. It tested OK on the bench, replaced it on a hunch with an OEM relay, and haven't had the problems again. I pulled all kinds of wiring, checked power and ground everywhere in the engine compartment. Even de-loomed most of the power loom to the ECM.

What was happening is once the ECM warmed up it would pull more power than the ECM 501 relay could maintain, and would quit. As far as the best I could surmise.

I replaced that relay with an oem relay very early.

Default Update

I purchased a used ECM from a junkyard and it is communicating, but the immobilizer is now preventing a start. Who can help with programming?
