I'm not talking about the DPF but the low-pressure EGR filter on the newer TDIs; does it actually have a filter element in there or is it just baffles?

I couldn't find a cutaway of an EGR filter, but if it is clogged, it usually means that the DPF is not functioning correctly. Is there soot on the inside of the exhaust pipe at the rear of the car?

Also your exhaust flap valve may be malfunctioning and not allowing Regens to occur.

The low pressure EGR filter, aka tube, has an internal screen.

I added a photo shared by another member of the filter he cut apart

Have not found a good photo of internals with the soot removed

This is the original design, starting in 2008. this part was replaced with a new design part as part of the emissions fix.
