It'll be interesting to see how it does in actual driving. The EPA highway cycle isn't really highway driving. I think the 30 MPG city is a more reliable measure.

The Cruze will do well, but probably no better than an EA288 TDI in a Golf or Jetta, even after the fix. :)

They also rust like holly hell because GM doesn't seem to understand the concept of rust-proofing.

The LS series of engines are the only good thing that came out of GM.

I feel the same about VW :)

Not that I own a Chevy currently, but I like GM. And prices are very attractive.
Our VW's have outlived GM cars by double. That should tell you something. ... that simply don't hold up worth a crap. Brake lines rust blow, door hinges are made of cheese and wear out/bend, wheel bearings suck, and on and on.

GM makes great engines but that's about it.
