What are your thoughts on the "maintenance free" toothed belt that runs directly in the oil? Do you plan to ever check/change the belt? I'm wondering what all that involves, if you could simply drop the pan to get access?

I don't like the idea of a lifetime belt myself..

There is really a lot of ex$pensive tech in the EA288 engine that really has me worried. A lot of clever engineering that when it breaks out of warranty will send to car to the scrap yard.

I would be more worried about the 2 stage oil pump and the associated electronics. Or that the cooling system has 3 electronically controlled water pumps.

change it when the TB is being changed if you're that concerned. not sure how invasive it is to change but while half the engine compartment is accessed for the TB it's gotta be easier to do.
