Hiya. I just filled up and put 60.5L in the tank with my regular method of holding back the vent with the filler nozzle after driving about 40km after light came on. Was I running on fumes?

You still had about 1 US gallon (3.785 liters) left . But on the bright side, you didn't run out :)

Very much like Nevada TDI said - every vehicle is different, every car is adjusted slightly different.

hmmm. something seems weird.

ive got an 04. ive had my fuel light come on and I did very close to 40km too. boy was that stressful, I was just waiting for it to die and pull over to the side. even then, I was only able to squeeze in 55L.

60L seems nuts!!!!! damn. at a rate of 5-6L per 100km.... thats nearly 100 more km after the fuel light... so 140km after the fuel light?! cant be right.

I once had a guy tell me you should test your car... fill up a jerry can and literally run it dry, just so you know. is that smart? does that make sense? maybe in a gasjob I suppose, but a diesel would need to be primed wouldnt it?

I ran my 2006 Jetta to -5 one time when doing a mileage test long ago. It took 16.5 gallons.
With my 2002 Jetta did the same as you did 16.5 US gallons or 62.5 liters. It wasn't intentional though.

I put 64 liters,vented, in my 2000 golf after I ran out.
I've put 62.5, vented, in my o3 wagon a couple of times....without running out.
