Hey Folks! I have an 02 Jetta that just started having some strange electrical issues. The Alarm/Panic horn goes off when I open the door after turning the car off and opening the drivers door. There is bunch of clicking going on in the trunk area when I turn that car off and the clock and trip odo keep resetting. The checked the connections under the battery. Fuses all look good. Another strange thing is the doom light flickers on/off at different times and isn't always bright.

Check the door wiring for frays and breaks... May also be your door switch to see if its bad (Stupid $2 door switch), but i suspect crossed wires in the door jam

You may have multiple issues. But clock and odo reset is often sign of a weak battery.

Check and clean the grounds under the battery tray.

There's a body ground under the left side of the dash and one at the lower left kick panel.
The wires in the door boot (mentioned) are a possibility also.

The end is near? :)

Pop the light assembly out and measure the voltage on each side of the bulb.
Ground the meter to the body or metal bar under the dash.

If the ground side is above a few tenths of a volt it's to high.
Should be brown with possibly a white tracer color.

The power side should be battery voltage. Red/? color.

The alarm going may point to the wires in the boot also.
No sure on this one.

There are just too many to list....
In addition to checking both sides of voltage starting with the battery, I would also avail yourself of the car's own OBD, as it may be able to give some clues.

Possibly unplugging the driver door harness to isolate that, too. The plugs are under the kick panel where the hood release lever is.
