We are selling the Beetle after many years of enjoyment and tinkering.

This site has been invaluable to me with the knowledge and help I have received along the way.

Here is my local Craigslist posting: Note that the price is reflective of the recent engine, suspension and brake upgrades.

We are looking at getting a larger trailer and with the limited use the car has been getting, it really needs to be out there being driven.

Ya, I know but the brakes are the kicker. I put over $6k USD into them. Maybe I should take them out and put the stock ones back.

There are just too many to list....
That is always the issue with car mods, they rarely ever have a 100% transfer of value to the car. In some cases they add nothing at all. Keep in mind, I personally do not necessarily agree with this, but that seems to be the trend.

I like your Beetle a lot, though. Don't think I could part with it!

We put about $15k CDN into the car about 3 years ago when we did the bulk of the improvements. We have already resigned ourselves to the fact that we might see half of that.

We found ourselves just using the Beetle for towing the little trailer about 5 times a year. Otherwise the extremely fuel efficient and fun to drive car just sits. We have 5 cars right now and our kids wont drive the Beetle because we have a nice DSG GTI for them to drive. Our work vehicles are used all the time as our business pays for them and we are always working!

We have had the car for a dozen years and put only 110k kms on it since we got it. It is just broken in now! We would love to keep it but with our insurance rates skyrocketing and our driveway being full, it makes sense to put it out there and see if someone is interested.

I thought about parting it as I am sure that this approach would be better financially for us but just don't have the time or space to do that.

Then the other consideration would be to make it a Smyth Truck :)

zaeli, I totally understand. We were thinking about pulling the brakes and cutting our asking price significantly. Then recently the idea of parting it out but that seems a waste with the great condition of the car.

Pretty tough situation all around!
