I’m going to pull a bhw from an 05 for a swap. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it? Or should I replace any critical parts while it’s out to make last another 300..

If it were mine...

-pull pan and check if BSM has been addressed
-pull cam cover and check lobe condition - replace as needed
-replace the timing belt system in conjunction with above
-I'd probably replace the tandem pump, due to possibility of seal failure or the vac nipple coming loose
-check the turbo impeller for lateral or axial play.
-I'd replace the rear main seal and likely the front crank seal as a precaution

Where is the guy who always says to trash them?

Id add a thermostat and oem elbow to that as well. Plus remove the intake and decarbon it. I kick myself for not doing both while the motor was out. Same for the cct
