What battery size for an '05 Passat TDI?

I had the dealer replace my B5V TDI battery last year with the VW original spec, based on a special offer. Easy, no complaint.

Check out Oilhammer's thread for upgrading to a larger battery, I just had this done a couple weeks ago and it's great! My 7 or 8 year old batt was starting to churn slower. Small extra cost for some extra peace of mind.

The original battery from vw is a wise choice, you already know its been good. Chances are, its better than what you might pick.

I did OH's 80 AH battery upgrage earlier this year. Piece of cake and I now have the same battery that the rest of the world got with these cars.

Does VW offer the 80ah battery? If so, that would be a wise choice, although the 72ah oem seems adequate unless you live in the frozen North.
Well my 2005 Passat TDI failed to start last night. So today I went to Sam's Club and got a 96R battery http://www.samsclub.com/sams/durace...p-size-96r/prod3590236.ip?sprodId=prod3590236
Hope this one lasts similar to the factory battery of 7 years.

You get 3 years free replacement with the Sam's battery. I would have put in a 94R instead (bigger) as I did in both our B5.5's and now my Jetta. But the 96R will be OK.

Got the Varta OEM 80 AH battery and hold down bracket from Impex for $145.00 .

I'll bet on the oem Varta battery to outlast Sam's by a long time.

The old battery was the original. ~7 years old when I replaced it. It started cranking a little slow on cold mornings, so I did the switch.

I got the bigger as per Oilhammer's upgrade and have NOT regretted it. I replaced it shortly after his post. It was a fantastic value as they had a rebate on VW batteries at the time. I think the VW batteries area great value. No complaints.
