2003 to 2004 MPG difference

I've been looking to make one of the Jetta TDI's mine one day and find myself dreaming at the dealerships regularly. For the past several years the 5 speed jetta's sticker has been showing a MPG of 49 hyway. the 2004 jetta last night showed 47 as the Hyway mileage. Has there been any chane from 03 to 04 in the engine ?

As a new TDI owner I don't know the specifics but the TDI went from a 90hp to 100 hp in the 04's. It is considerd the PD engine.

The engines are different. I'd do a search on the PD forum and check out the FAQ (scroll down to letter f). As far as mileage, from what I've learned 03's are slightly better, but 04's have more power.
