Getting my fuel gauge accurate again

I'm sure this has happened to somebody else here. When my car gets below 1/4 tank, the gauge actually begins to rise, quickly. About 50 miles after hitting a 1/4 it will be read "half tank." I've been filling up between 1/2 and 1/4 tanks for the past year now.

Figure I should fix this finally, hopefully this spring. I've heard things about this possibly being the fuel sending unit but I can't seem to find info on this or find prices for the replacement part.

Try a junk yard. There is a circuit board designed for reporting variable resistance based on the float's position. Changes are this little guy is all that needs to be changed.

Should have specified, A3. The link says that part is only for the B4s.

You can always pull it and clean it by hand...

True, how do I get to it? Under the back seat?

It's under the carpet of the trunk behind the passanger side rear seat. If you can prop the carpet up, there there is no need to pull the seats to remove the carpet.
