extra socket in Sportwagen inner tail light is for?

I note that there is an unused socket in the inner light assebmly, Is it for a purpose not available in North America?

I popped out the "dummy" plate (drill, dremel) and put a LED in there, tapped to the tail-light bulb. Not a rear fog, but all of my tail light illuminates now. :)

I added a rear fog to my last three MK7s, one TDI and 2 GTIs.

In low/inclement weather it really seems to help with rear visibility so others can see you, it also keeps other drivers from riding your rear bumper.

How are you guys jumping the wiring? You just hacking the stock loom or buying pins and plugs to kinda make it OEM?

Given that I didn't install rear fog functionality, but rather, just "extended" the tail light to the rear fog bulb position, I simply tapped the rear taillight wire.

I re-purposed the wiring that runs to the rear-mounted 6-pack CD changer.. on the proper side and everything. :)

Did you also turn on the inner rear brake light by coding as well?

If so sounds like you'd have 3 lights per side, very bright and noticeable.

Yes. Set up the blinking on turn/hazards to be all three bulbs each side as well. Hopefully, my intended / indicated actions are noticed. :)
(Oh - and also, they're all LEDs; took me three tries, but finally found ones that were only $10/pair and more than bright enough).
