I popped out the "dummy" plate (drill, dremel) and put a LED in there, tapped to the tail-light bulb. Not a rear fog, but all of my tail light illuminates now.
Given that I didn't install rear fog functionality, but rather, just "extended" the tail light to the rear fog bulb position, I simply tapped the rear taillight wire.

Yes. Set up the blinking on turn/hazards to be all three bulbs each side as well. Hopefully, my intended / indicated actions are noticed.
(Oh - and also, they're all LEDs; took me three tries, but finally found ones that were only $10/pair and more than bright enough).
