The license plate lights are standard bulbs. I don't recall what lamps the turn signals take, I think it was the same as the front turn signals.

Has anyone worked out the issue with the center lights being too bright and not dimming/etc when apply/release brake lights?

Thanks

Yes, the center lights are too bright. I'm going to add some resistors in tomorrow to dim them down a bit, I had ones on had that totaled about 590k and it seems to make the brightness just about perfect.

FWIW the inner fixtures (less the middle segment) draw 3.6 watts at full brightness.

Update, just went to radio shack and got some 50 ohm, 10 watt resistors. They drop the power to 8.3 volts, making the brightness just about perfect Cost for two was under $2.50.

Can you pull a forward voltage on that LED with a meter? Sounds like it's running about 3.6 to 3.7 volts at 1000 mah, pretty common for an LED that puts out that kind of light, probably an R2 or R5 Cree LED rated at 320- 350 lumens output.

I would like to clone the inner and outer fixtures, similar to what Audi does. With the center bullet lights only coming on with brake/turn for more contrast (again, a la Audi). I believe recoding and another wire is required to make them function like this... A work in progress - that's the ultimate goal.

Radio shack part:

Video showing the difference:

It's a bit of a challenge to take a picture showing the brightness, but to my eye it looks really close now.

EDIT: Here's another video showing the corrected brightness:

That looks great, good work. @passat2012nc do you mind telling the group what a pair of these runs? Think you will be able to make them plug/play?

Any idea what the Chinese coding number is for the BCM? That would help a lot!

In my installation i did not use any resistors or capacitors. I removed the plug from the tail and just shaved the pings a bit to make them fit in the cars plugs. No coding needed the back up lights are on the outside tail not the inner i had to run a cable from the inner thru the outside ones...
