I have a 2002 Golf with an airbag light on. Where do I start? All igniters and switches are correct in measuring blocks. I'm unsure if the coding is correct as my Bentley manual is locked in an old computer. Is VCDS able to recode the module or am I stuck going to the dealer?

VCDS will not reprogram the controller.
If it’s bad do not go to the dealer unless you want to throw money at them.
Controller is located just to the right of the accelerator pedal, behind the side panel.
If you can take a picture of the data plate and do a search on the internet for that exact p/n and letter code.
Disconnect the battery, Three cap nuts and the connector and it’s out.
Put the replacement one in and reconnect the battery.
If all is well in the air bag system you will not have any lights or codes.

From your post:
01224 - Control Module Does Not Match Vehicle
35-00 - -

Wrong controller?
Did this just start recently or did you just buy the car?

Sounds like someone got a used module and installed it. (not pointing the finger)

Follow the instructions above when you disconnect it to replace it.

The problem was the controller. I got a used one from eBay making sure the index number was the same. I also made sure it was removed from a 2002 Golf if not the coding will be different even though the PN is the same.
Installed it and the light remained on. Hooked up Vag-com and checked the codes it had a low voltage code and 2 resistance problems I didn’t note them because they were stored from the previous vehicle. The 01224 code wasn’t present. I cleared the codes and all is well.

Thanks for the help.
