Is there any reason why when reinstalling the lower rear control arm bolt that you shouldn't install in backwards (the opposite direction) it came from the factory? I've read online that others have done that with other B5 generation cars. It would certainly make the job easier in the future.

Thanks.

I've seen a couple A4/Passats with the bolt backwards and there wasn't any problem.

It's the one that holds the strut, right?

I've installed it the "normal" way... I was talking about the rear lower arm not the front one. This is the bolt you need to lower the subframe for.

I had that same thought, but figured the bolt wouldn't get into the subframe access hole. Never actually tried to see if it can fit.

But in the end, my torque wrenches would have never fit the bolt or nut if the subframe was not lowered. I tried my ratchet clicker type and my skinny head beam type and they would just hit the body or it wouldn't fit in the subframe access hole.
