Heated Mirrors \'99 Golf TDI

The owner's manual says that they
run off of the read window heated.

But they don't seem to do anything.
I was driving in fog and they took
half an hour to clear.

Does anyone actually have positive
verification that they actually work ?

Re: Heated Mirrors \'99 Golf TDI

They work wonderfully in my '99 NB, and get hot enough to "burn" rainwater off the glass in a couple of minutes. But I have a GLS with power windows, so I am able to leave the mirror heaters on all the time if I want to. (Seperate switch for the heaters.) The rear window defogger in your car is timed, and so are the mirror heaters since they're tied into the same circuit. They'll only stay on for a few minutes. Sorry.

p.s. I'm assuming you have a GL model. If you have power mirrors, look at the switch. If there is a little "heater" symbol between the "L" and "R" settings, you manually turn the mirror heaters on by setting the switch to that middle position. They'll stay on forever unless you say otherwise. If your mirror heaters turn on with the rear defogger, then what I said above applies.
