Anyone have a TDI ALH Suzuki Sidekick?

Just wondering if this swap has been done by anyone in this club?

I am very tempted as my truck is done out with Toyota axles-dual Transfer cases-37" tires -rock crawlin machine

I am still running the factory 80 HP 1.6L8v motor

Search for deepmud on here, he has a TDI in his Samurai. His is super built up also.

Yeah I WISH we could have more diesel options in N.America........

I did see the Samurai........it's a little different than the Sidekick however.

Your Sidekick was our Vitara, and was available from the factory with the old Mazda RF turbodiesel. IIRC, that engine was available in NA for a while, so with the right mountings and bellhousing it might be a handy swap?

The question is.......

Is it worth importing a motor from Europe.......or just using the ALH....

As I said, that engine was used in the US. I'd need to spend a couple of hours trawling the Suzuki parts cd to confirm what all is needed, but a front clip would have it all.

Wouldn't an ALH be the wrong starting point, if you need longitudinal mounting?

I have a few friends that have done the 1.6Turbo swap............
It's too gutless for my liking(unless you put some $$ into it)

I was thinking the AAZ would be more suitable or an ALH

(I have seen how much power they can both produce and they are both impressive)

i know ACME ADAPTERS has the Suzuki tranny to VW engine kit for the AAZ.......

The ALH is different right?

Later block has no mounting points IIRC.

AAZ bolt pattern for trans is the same as ALH.A custom mount can be fitted on the frt of motor.

I inquired about the 1.9TD a few years back.......not sure if everything in the kit would work for the ALH

I too was wondering about this......

How would you do an ALH? Wouldnt it be easier to use a mechanical injectioned car? Less computer stuff to deal with?
