• The TDIClub classifieds section is a heavily trafficked section of the forum that encompasses want-to-buy (WTB) and for-sale (FS) threads for the entire world. Due to the demanding nature and fast pace of this section, it is imperative that you know and understand the rules. It is also important to remember that this is the only parts classifieds section.

Cross-posting and posting classifieds in the regional sections (except the dedicated thread in Ontario) is not permitted.

Multiple items should be sold in one thread. Make sure to provide a description for all items in your post along with pictures and prices. If you start multiple threads with individual items, they will be locked or combined at the discretion of the moderators.

Here is a quick outline of the classifieds section rules. If you don't follow these rules, you subject yourself to thread deletion, thread combination, infractions, or posting privilege revocation.

    Thread titles:
    • Put FS or WTB in your thread title. This will let other users know if you are selling or buying.
    • Briefly describe what you are selling. Thread titles have limited space. Be as descriptive, yet succinct, as possible.
    • Put your location in the title.
    • If space allows, put your price in the title

Title example (single item): "FS: 2004 Mk4/BEW cylinder head - Portland, OR - $500"
Title example (multiple items): "FS: MK6 fog lights, front bumper, headlights, grill - Detroit, MI"
Title example (car part-out): "FS: Mk3 Jetta parting out engine & interior - Dallas, TX"

    Thread text descriptions and pictures:
    • All for-sale threads must include pictures of the items that you are selling. One picture is sufficient, but multiple pictures with different angles will help buyers. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don't know how to post pictures on TDIClub, see this thread: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=286691
    • All for-sale threads must include a description. We don't charge per-word, so be as descriptive as possible. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for buyers.
    • All for-sale threads must include a price. Auctions and bidding are not allowed. If you want to auction something off, use eBay.
No picture, no price, NO SALE!

    Thread maintenance/updates/bumps:
    • When you sell something, update your thread with "SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title.
    • If you have multiple items for sale, update your thread as each item has been sold. When everything has been sold, updated the thread with "ALL ITEMS SOLD!" Moderators will close the thread and update the title when all items have been sold.
    • If you bump your thread, please delete old bumps by clicking on EDIT and then deleting the old bump. This will reduce clutter in your thread and make it easier to read. It also makes you look less desperate.
    • If you drop your price, please update your first post in addition to posting the new price. If you would like the thread title changed, click on the report post icon and let a moderator know what you would like the title changed to.

    Moderator intervention and infraction points:
Moderators will be monitoring the classifieds section. If a moderator determines that you have not been following the rules listed above, corrections will be made and infraction points will be assessed to your account.

What is an infraction point? Simple - it's a system of keeping track of user behavior. A moderator can assign a point value based on the severity of the infraction, as well as an expiration date on the points assessed. If you accumulate a certain number of points, the system will auto-ban you for a predefined amount of time. The more points you accumulate, the longer your ban period will be.

One example of points is as follows: multiple threads will be combined into a single thread, with the number of infraction points assessed corresponding to the number of threads merged. If we merge four threads into one, then you will be assessed four points that expire in 30 days. When you reach five points, the system will auto-ban you for one day.*

*This is an example based on the current infraction system structure. We reserve the right to modify the infraction system at any time without notice or updates to this announcement.

Thank you for your cooperation, and good luck with your sales and searches! :)

While most members here on TDIClub.com are outstanding people and great to deal with, one should always use their own good judgment when making a purchase or sale (private individual or vendor). Especially in light of some recent issues that have arisen.

This would include making sure you have a Name, Address (not just a PO box), a valid phone number, valid and traceable email address (not yahoo or hotmail as an example). Also as the saying goes, "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is" as in the end it is your car and money.

For the past several weeks we have been working on a type of vendor registration system for vendors. Hopefully this will help a bit, but it will never be a panacea, so using your own good judgment is paramount.

For vendors on TDIClub.com, send me an email @ fred@tdiclub.com and I'll include you when we finally have the process and forms finalized.

In light of recent events that have proceeded VW Derf's post above from 2004, I want to simply remind everyone to pay attention to any brand new member signing on to sell something, and that standard disclaimers apply. This is NOT intended to discriminate against new members, nor is it intended to discourage legitimate transactions of any kind.

By all means do all necessary due diligence on every party of every transaction.

Rules are rules: anyone who comes to sell something as a vendor MUST be registered to as such to TDIClub management. A vendor, whether a registered/incorporated business or a home-operated outfit, is defined here as anybody who sells a good or goods in a manner that is more than just a circumstantial clearing of one's garage of personal effects. Where a vendor is not a registered business and the letter of the rules do not adequately apply, the spirit does.

Important reminder: TDIClub.com WILL NOT BE AN ARBITOR, NOR TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY of any disputes, losses, damages, etc., whatsoever arising from a transaction from the classified service.

Parts suppliers, sellers, etc, read this!!

If you are a new/used parts seller, reseller, supplier, wholesaler, etc, we ask some things of you:

1. Register as a member,

http://forums.tdiclub.com/register.php

2. Register as a vendor,

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=214572

Q & A concerning vendors and the vendor FAQ can be found here:

http://www.tdiclub.com/Disclaimer/vendor.html

New member/vendors must wait 60 days before they can post their wares and/or services for sale. We realize this is inconvenient but it screens out the eBay, Craig's List, and all the usual venues the scammers and frauds use.

3. Post your wares in the vendors' forum:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62

4. No linking to your eBay auctions, Craigslist links, etc. Become a member and simply post your wares in the vendor's forum. There are too many scams on eBay, Craigslist, etc. Become a member of TDIClub and register as a vendor because this gives buyers & sellers easier access to each other, much better credibility and communication, and helps screen out the scammers.

Anyone who is found out to be a seller and posts eBay links, Craigslist links, etc, on TDIClub's forums will have their threads and/or posts removed. This includes links in signatures, profiles, and avatars. Repeat offenders will be banned.

Thank you.

This is a reminder to be very vigilant and pay extra attention and due diligence to very new members advertising things for sale. Repeat scammers who have been banned have signed on with aliases to continue selling their wares. We try to keep on top of these, but we need your help to report suspicious posts.

TO BE CLEAR: The vast majority of classified ads, even those placed by brand new members, are perfectly legitimate. We don't want to discourage or put these to a stop. But we want to simultaneously try to protect members from scammers, and send a message to those scammers that they are not welcome here.

Just bringing this word of caution to the top again, especially since the link is a little different in Xenforo than it was in VBulletin. If you see any conversations you think might be suspicions, please "Report" them via the link below the message.
