Is what the buy back specialist told me yesterday. I will seriously consider buying one back after the fix is applied. Should easily be able to buy them for 8k-10k less then buyback value.

Obviously this is contingent on them approving and applying a fix, but I'm pretty confident the newer passats will have no issues with a new flash.

So, if you are interested, it may be wise to give your dealer a heads up.

The buyback specialist is a temp.

He/she has as much inside information on VW's plans as the homeless guy down the street who hangs out by the interstate ramp dropping his pants for change.

$10K below buyback?

How long have you guys been dealing with VW?

*If* there's a fix, they will sell them for a few thousand than they used to (and probably more than the gassers) and tell you that they're the only TDIs anymore so you're lucky just to be able to purchase them for any price.

My buyback specialist related the same information. I suspect it is true. However, I'm done with TDI's, with their DPF's and HPFP's. Moving on, possibly an A4 allroad. There is such a thing as being too obsessed with fuel economy.

Our dealership manager stated that is what he thought was going to happen. The reality is 2-3 trucks a week hauling them out of town, he was bummed.

Yes.if the extra cost, maintenance and possibly larger repairs are factored in that money will buy an awful lot of petrol. But there is the torque and 800 mile tanks though.

It appears all will be transported to a common location, modified if feasible and cost-effective, then offered back to the dealers. That makes sense, as the modifications could be extensive, and best done at a special facility.

The Audi training video that someone found a while back, indicated that the repair would be done by the dealers with VW supplying a parts kit and paying for the labour. Part of the repair process involved documenting the installation of the new parts in the vehicle.

Assuming some are fixed and offered back to dealers, will the dealer getting the first shot be the dealer who first sold the car, or the dealer where the car was turned in?

Dealer who dealt with the buyback. The intent is to give the dealers an opportunity to put some work through their service department and make some profit as compensation for dealing with all this.

I cannot believe that VW would structure the warranty hours and parts reimbursement to allow much profit at all for a dealership performing the fix.

Why would they truck them away then turn around and give that dealer dibs on buying it back so someone could truck it back to the dealer for repair?

Also, this mess isn't the fault of the dealers. They are getting shafted in all this, too.
The dealers are also receiving compensation by way of the lawsuit. A pretty good chunk per dealer. If it offsets their lost revenue as a result of the bad press, difficult to say. However, betcha it will be a rare dealer who passes some along to the rank & file employees, in particular salespersons.

My guess is that until a fix is approved VW is taking the cars, so the dealer lots don't get filled up. After all, if it takes a year to get approval the dealers will not have any room left.
VW is already paying the dealers to keep the unsold 2015s active.
