Not sure if this is the right category or not but here goes.

I'm currently in process of doing a minor rebuild on my engine after experiencing excessive cam wear which resulted in the cam seizing up and some valves getting bent. Car is a 2000 NB TDI, auto with 120k miles (the last 20k being driven by me, I have no record of its prior maintenance. With about 2 grand invested in repairing the engine, I am looking at driving this car long-term.

I realize that VW designed the transmission to be sealed with lifetime fluid, but is there any advantage to doing a fluid change? Where can I find info on doing this? I have a Bentley manual on CD-ROM headed my way, does this manual cover it?

Just came across that thread while searching.

I've also seen conflicting methods as to filling the tranny to the proper level. Some say to go with the method as outlined in the Bentley manual. Others state this is not full enough and to replace the same amount that you took out. Of course...that is assuming the correct amount was there in the first place.

Any insight or final determination on this issue that I may have missed?
