Runaway that responds to the key going off = QA in pump, most likely.

Runaway that doesn't respond to the key going off = engine running on its own oil, from the intercooler or a turbo that's going south.

Turns off with key no issues. No smoke. Possible oil consumption at turbo but don't know yet

Will do compression test as well. Suggestions where to find cheap gauge

Are you listening? Did you read what we wrote? Why would you think it's compression?

Don't just throw parts at it hoping one will stick, fix it correctly which starts with diagnosing it correctly so you know what to fix.

Easy easy. I will hook it up to my vag com this afternoon. It's the run away that concerns me. That said it's still idling. Just not great. I figured swapping an injector wasn't an expensive diagnostic procedure that's all. It could be turbo oil. I will pull the Ic tube and check for oil.

I appreciate all of the help and suggestions

Today's check list

Inter cooler hose for oil

Injections qa on vag com

Will report back with findings

Tb was done 12 k ago

Run away was "controllable" with limited throttle input ie was safely driven home by prior owner

I can't get my vag com to activate. It's been years

Stay tuned

Smoke comes out Ic pipe. That completely stops when oil cap removed then oil smoke comes out oil fill

Safe to say turbo gone

Suspect broken ring.

It has us scratching heads

Car will be parted. I'll check compression but not suspecting much success

One thing I saw here, blowby is normal with a diesel engine no? I spent time before researching and from what I've read it's something very common. Too much is bad but a normal amount will always be there from what I understand.

Idles rough with I hose disconnected. When oil cap removed oil smoke comes out filler and stops coming out Ic pipe

Too weird for me. I will part the car out
