I recently purchased a used 2015 Golf TDI
It started to smell like exhaust when starting.
The smell went away when driving but smelled again when stopped at a light.
My wife said she started to get a headache and my kids said they were feeling sick.
I called the dealership and they had me bring it in.
I had a 2011 Jetta TDI and I never smelled anything like this before
I literally had the car 2 days

What questions should I ask?
Can I return the car after 2 days?

thanks

Dave

If you just bought it, it might have had phase 2 of the emissions recall done. People have noticed the odd smell from either the new components or the new components not being installed correctly.

If it persists, i.e. is still happening, then bring it in to the dealer.

If you're smelling exhaust, it is possible the dealer misaligned the turbo/DPF connection during the phase 2 fix. I just had my phase 2 done and smell nothing under the hood with the car running

You should not be smelling any raw diesel exhaust smell in the cabin period. If the car has had both phases of the fix and was sitting on the dealer lot before you bought it, I would start with exhaust plumbing that was removed for the fix.

Open the hood, stick your nose toward the back of the engine where the turbo is located, is the smell present with the motor running?

What has the dealer said to you?
