VW sold pre-production test vehicles for years rather than crush them

If you ever wondered why you ended up with a Lemon...

Automotive industry practice has long dictated that test cars will not make their way into the hands of customers. Rather, pre-production cars, test mules and cars like that will be retained by the factory and unceremoniously crushed. Even some press cars have the same fate, as they can be pre-production specification and vary from the final product. However, it appears that Volkswagen has bent the rules somewhat.

And this is a problem for you, why? The only real thing is that is could be a problem liability wise for VW. Maybe. In the convoluted lawyer way of trying to manufacture a reason to get something for nothing, maybe there could possibly be a liability exposure in there somewhere. But seriously, does anyone think that VW is going to sell unsafe vehicles in this manner? The only real exposure would be in parts compatibility, and VW does enough of that in its general manufacturing process that nobody would be able to tell the difference.

So... (yawn) ... back to our regularly scheduled program...

Cheers

Clearly nobody realizes the automobile manufacturers are constantly making changes to a product, even within a model year.
