CV Joint Question

Ok so when I removed the right half shaft (to replace torn boot) from the transmission (03 Jetta wagon TDI w/ manual) the CV joint collar stayed attached to the transmission rather than coming off with the half shaft.

Two questions.
How do I get the collar off of the transmission flange?
and
I obviously lost the alignment between the collar, the ball cage, and the hub. How much of a problem is this?

Are you talking about the sheet metal collar/band? If so, side cuts will take it off. You'll need an alignment or else you'll have uneven tire wear....
