Mercedes R and ML CDI in Fall

Looks like Mercedes has officially announced expanded diesel selection for the US starting this fall. The R and ML classes will have diesel offerings starting this fall with the R320 CDI and the ML320 CDI. Of course, the E class will continue its diesel offering with the new and improved E320 Bluetec.

Of surprise to me is that the C230 will be a flex fuel vehicle, capable of using E85 ethanol. It may not be a diesel, but a decent consolation prize nontheless. I'm curious if more and more auto makers will go this route if the economics of a diesel does not work out for a particular vehicle.
