But your are attempting to compares autos that are not comparable. Four wheel verses two wheel drive, gas versus diesel. Not a valid comparison of features and capabilities.
They aren't comparing features and capabilities though. They are comparing reliability.

Bought a 2010 Legacy 2.5L Premium CVT and drove it for over a year before getting the JSW 6M. Didn't care for the CVT and hated the emergency brake release push/pull button. On the plus side, we had the Subaru for the big snow a couple of seasons ago which was fun, but the mileage does not even compare to the JSW. I would say that VW is a drivers car whereas the Subaru is more of an appliance albeit less so than a Toyota/Honda and they are very reliable appliances.

we haven't gone through the winter yet.
SJD BOSTON, just put snow tires at each corner. You will be fine. I drive Rt 95 with trucks spinning out in front of me and my JSW tracks straight and true. The snows go on around Thanksgiving. Direct Tire stores them for me and they mount them on my only set of rims.

I hear ya and thats the plan. I will just feel better once we get through the first winter. If we could have towed our ski-doo's behind the outback I would have dumped the tribeca for the jsw.

Of wait, that was on a PAST model.

Nevermind.
But has it been really resolved. I personally won't but another.

Exactly my point. Dismissing todays car (of whatever make) because of yesterdays mistakes is a mistake.

It's all a trade off and which risk you're willing to take.

Which is why I definitely will reconsider purchasing another in the future. A track record of big ticket items failing prematurely is something worth considering IMO.
