How to replace a Mechtronics unit?

1997 tdi, 2006 Jetta DSG, 2003 ALH Wagon
I have an 06 with a DSG trans. and will probably need to replace the mechtronics unit. Does anybody have experiance with this procedure? Is it as easy as unbolt and replace? Any reprogramming, calibrating etc?
