This is from my scheduled maintenance chart. 2015 Golf TDi DSG.

Something about HO2 getting in the brake lines(?)

If so, How?

And if so, why does the BF not run out?

Every 3 years, regardless of mileage and every 2 years after: Brake fluid and clutch unit: Replace fluid

_______________

....and for you VW owners, are you changing the BF?

Brake fluid absorbs water from the air. (it is hygroscopic)

should be changed every 2 years or so.

typically it gets done when brake pads & rotors are replaced. if ever.

It happens especially on cars that are rarely driven more than 4 miles and sit most of the time. Your brake fluid is probably at least 50% moisture by now, prob same with oil too.

Yep. I heard three years, but manufacturers vary, as does ambient humidity, so maybe the three years is a safe number for worst case scenario.

Moisture is hard on the ABS pump. The leftover '15s got a brake fluid flush before delivery. Flushing the lines is pretty easy with some type of power bleeder.

I wonder if all the 15's had a brake fluid flush. Mine doesn't mention it, the only thing on the Recall invoice would be:

ZVW-001-001 Fluids

Any idea what that is?

Replacing brake fluid every two years has been standard procedure on every car since the dawn of time.

The reason it's 3 years the first time is because it's all fresh fluid. After a flush you can't usually get 100% of the old fluid out, so you need to do it every 2 years after that.
