Default No heat when recirculating the air

I have a 2004 Jetta TDI Wagon, recently the car provides no heat if I press the recirculating button(if the outside air is dirty). If the button is "depressed", heat will come on.

I guess it might be a relay problem, any experiences, folks?

The car is still under warranty, but I don't like going to the dealers, I tried two already, don't like their service. If it is easily fixable, I would rather do it myself.

P.S. Dose anyone know how to change the battery in the remote key?
